Bug reports
Tape is not available as public source code. There is no public repository or issue tracker to file against.
We understand this will be questioned by many. The "Reflections on Trusting Trust" attack is a real concern, and you should not trust random executables found on the internet. However, Tape is not a random executable. It is developed by Puida Oy, a real and reputable Finnish software company with an 8-year track record in professional software development. All our binaries are cryptographically signed by us, and verified by Microsoft and Apple. Delivering a compromised compiler would cause immense and irreversible damage to our company's reputation, finances, and customer base. We have everything to lose by breaking your trust.
Our primary mission with Tape is to help game developers make games faster. Puida Oy's business model is not to simply license compilers, but to provide ongoing, dedicated support throughout the various phases of game development. We achieve this by providing fast, tailor-made compilers that work for your specific use cases. Keeping the source closed allows us to maintain a high-quality ecosystem. If the compiler were fully open, we would have to deal with thousands of sloppy, LLM-generated clones and unmaintained forks from users who do not contribute back to the core project.
That said, we understand the need for absolute certainty. Under a standard NDA, we are happy to share the Tape compiler source code with developers building real projects, as well as with independent security auditors. This allows you to compile the source yourself and validate that the checksums perfectly match our official, signed binaries.
Bug reports, feature requests, and conversations with the developers happen in the Tape community on Sulje, Puida's customer community. Membership is a paid subscription for teams and serious solo developers building projects with Tape. Members can have bugs tracked, shape what gets built next, and talk directly with the people writing the compiler. (You can also chat with our developers freely on our public Discord).
Sulje members can request access to the Tape source code for their project verification and custom needs. Requests are considered case by case, and a subscription does not guarantee access to the source, but we are always eager to support legitimate game development efforts.
